What do you do? I hate that question! I'm never sure what to answer, because people expect to hear one thing. We're all multi-faceted, and we are not our jobs.
So what do I do? I teach. I write. I design Web sites. I consult. I love people, music, animals, travel. Which of these things really defines me? I can't say. But this page provides professional and personal information about me that might help others define me, if they feel it necessary to do so.
Current bio
Molly E. Holzschlag is a well-known Web standards advocate, instructor, and author. She is Group Lead for the Web Standards Project (WaSP) and an invited expert to the HTML and GEO working groups at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Via each of these roles, Molly works to educate designers and developers on using Web technologies in practical ways to create highly sustainable, maintainable, accessible, interactive and beautiful Web sites for the global community.
Among her thirty-plus books is the The Zen of CSS Design, co-authored with Dave Shea. The book artfully showcases the most progressive csszengarden.com designs. A popular and colorful individual, Molly has a particular passion for people, blogs, and the use of technology for social progress.

Molly.Com exists primarily to share my web design and development work and personal thoughts. However, it was also conceived as a means of demonstrating a site that uses structured markup (XHTML 1.0) and CSS. The blog is driven by WordPress.

All pages on molly.com are built using PHP templates, XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.1.

How this site was built
Wanting a fresh look, and not being the most imaginative of designers myself, I contacted one of my favorite web designers, Patrick H. Lauke, to work on concept. Patrick came to my attention first via the Reusit contest, where his "Minimal Jakob" design still makes me laugh every time I see it. Then, I was exposed to the work he did for the CSS Zen Garden, Gothica, and most especially Door to My Garden, which I later got to write about in detail. Something inspired me to email him and see if he'd like to work with me to come up with a new look for molly.com, and lo and behold, he wrote back and said Yes!
So, a huge round of applause to Patrick for coming up with a bold design that is also feminine and reflective of, well, me.
