and now for a little zen

THE BOOK IS here! I just got my copy of the Zen of CSS: visual enlightenment for the web. It looks terrific, and I’m very proud of Dave Shea and myself for pulling off what is really one cool book.

Some folks have been emailing me and saying that Amazon is delaying delivery. I have no idea what’s going on with that or why that’s happening. I’ll try to dig into it. However, both Dave and myself have received copies, as have several contributors. So my suspicion is it’s something to do with distribution. At least there’s proof it’s here, and if anyone is having delays with anyone other than Amazon, please let me know.

This just in: Dave’s posted about the book, too, and has a few cool pics of it!

In the meantime, I wanna shout out some love here. To Dave, all of the contributing designers, and of course, for the sheer existence of the CSS Zen Garden.

  3. All great and wonderful, except I’m surprised you didn’t post a link to ordering the book within this post. ๐Ÿ™‚ After all, you are promoting your book here and every little link helps.

  4. Charles, good point. I guess my concern at the moment is that there’s some delay with distribution and I’m not sure how deep that goes. That’s why I asked for feedback on that. Also, I really like the idea of people deciding for themselves where they buy stuff – I’m a strong proponent of keeping local bookstores alive if at all possible. So, there ya have it. But you’re right.

  5. No problem… I’m really getting a little absent-minded.. I went to Amazon and placed it on order… only to find I had already done so a month ago. So I cancelled the second order. However, this is important to note: My first order has an estimated delivery date of Feb26-Mar 1; however, the second order had a delivery date of Apr-May. Glad I ordered it back in January. Darn my memory. ๐Ÿ™‚

I guess it is true that you either list all of the possible online stores or pick and choose your favorites. I guess it is better to leave it up to each user… they’ll search their favorite and, if it’s not available there, go to one of the other big name distributors until they find what they want.

  6. Of course, not finding the link here, I immediately went to your books list and didn’t even find it listed. ๐Ÿ™ I’m surprised you didn’t have it on that list the minute the final copy went to the publisher. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. And as usual, I leave the praise to be an afterthought. Congrats on the book and I look forward to getting my copy soon.

  8. Any change to get a sample chapter online?

  9. I mailed Amazon today to ask when they were expecting the book to be released, this was their answer:

“Our latest information indicates that “The Zen of CSS Design : Visual
Enlightenment for the Web” has not yet been released and the expected
release date is not known. As soon as a release date has been
determined for this item, we will add that information to our web
    site.

While we are confident that copies will be made available, we cannot
provide more precise information about the fulfillment of the order. …”
(And then they split my order into separate shipments without any additional cost, so that my other books wouldn’t have to sit waiting. Thankyou Amazon! Hope they’ll give me/us some more good news soon.)

  10. Congrats!

I’m looking forward to get the book over to Malta by summer, when I’ll have time to dig it once my exams are over.

  11. Hmmm… I just found another hint in Dave’s blog:
“Amazon is sending out shipping notices already…”

  12. Congratulations Molly! I look forward to reading it ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. top stuff…that means my copy is on its way as well ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Excellent news, Molly! I saw the pics over at Dave’s site… looks like they did a superb job… can’t wait to get a copy. Congratulations on another birth! ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. You know I’m looking forward to a copy! ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Congratulations Molly! I already congratulated Dave, I think you’re great partners ๐Ÿ™‚

I can’t wait to get my hands on this book ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. Ooooh! I can’t wait to see it. ๐Ÿ˜€

  18. If you want to link to the book, and you still want to support independent booksellers, why not link to http://www.booksense.com/?

  19. It’s a great day when your time and effort is sat in your hands for the first time. I was quite speechless when I first held my book, purely because I had so many things happening during the writing of it, that I thought I’d never see it published.

    Congratulations ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. I’m sorry for that trackback. It was automated accident. ๐Ÿ™ I need to change encoding to utf-8. Sorry.

  22. ah, I knew I should have pre-ordered it. I’ve noticed amazon has had it on hold for quite some time and Dave posted about it a while ago how he had the final transcripts done and yada yada.

Looking forward to it arriving in my mail box. It will make for a great case for using web standards for the other developers in the office.

Thanks for the heads up Molly.

  23. Great!

I pre-ordered mine last November and I’m looking forward to read it since then. I expect not to wait long (the shipments to Brazil aren’t fast).

  24. Finished most of the book and I must say I’m very happy the way it has turned out. As I’ve mentioned to Dave the book covers the aspect of design well and illustrates that CSS is a tool to get the job done. Congratulations on a fine book.

  25. Congratulations!
That may be a very useful book for me.

  26. I can’t wait to get the book. Read your interviews at Digital Web too. It’s amazing how you’ve influenced Dave into doing web design through one of your many books and now collaborating with him. You go girl!!! Dave is an excellent writer too. Grats to you both and to the designer’s whose works were showcased in the book.

  28. whoa! I just saw the book right now and it took me 71 seconds to purchase it from amazon.ca ๐Ÿ˜€ oOoh I can’t wait! I hope it arrives before I scuttle down to Indianapolis for Star Wars Celebration III. It would be my ‘must have‘ read on the plane ๐Ÿ˜€

  29. Hey! Books looks great! Can’t wait to get my copy! My name in the back so exciting! Thanks!

  30. If I buy another CSS book it will be this, I appreciate both yours and Dave Shea’s input when it comes to creating CSS Designs. I already have one book which I find very helpfull (which is unrelated to either of you two).

  31. Is this book still available? I got a page cannot be displayed when I went here http://www.csszengarden.com/

  32. And as usual, I leave the praise to be an afterthought. Congrats on the book and I look forward to getting my copy soon.
